Description
Benjamin F. Cheatham Civil War map of Nashville and surrounding counties
Military map of Middle Tennessee from the Benjamin Franklin Cheatham Papers, showing cities and towns, roads, turnpikes, toll roads, railroads, rivers and streams in Bedford, Cannon, Cheatham, Davidson, Maury, Robertson, Rutherford, Sumner, Trousdale, Williamson, and Wilson counties. As a division and, later, corps commander in the Confederate Army of Tennessee, Cheatham may have used this detailed map for operations in Middle Tennessee.
Benjamin Franklin Cheatham (1820-1886) was a major general and corps commander in the Confederate Army of Tennessee during the Civil War. There is a notation on this map indicating it was copied from a Federal map.
